Finding cheap flights to Bali is one of the first steps to planning a dream holiday on the Island of the Gods. With the right search strategy, regular checks on airline promotions, and a little flexibility with your travel dates, you can often save a good amount on airfare.
Besides sharing practical tips for finding promotional fares, this article will also help you choose the most efficient flight option for your budget and travel needs. We’re going to cover tips and tricks for those of you flying to Bali, so you can avoid overspending and enjoy your vacation with more freedom.
Airlines use a system called revenue management or dynamic pricing, which means passengers on the same flight to Bali can pay very different prices for similar seats. Fares usually increase as the departure date gets closer, cheaper fare classes sell out, or demand rises during weekends, holidays, and busy travel periods.
Knowing how this system works can help you find better Bali flight deals and avoid paying more than necessary.
Airlines usually open bookings around 6–11 months before departure and release a limited number of seats at lower prices. Once those seats are sold, fares move to the next, more expensive price level.
As a general guide, try booking around 2–4 months ahead for domestic flights and 4–6 months ahead for long-haul international flights. This is often a good starting point when looking for the cheapest time to fly to Bali. You can also use Google Flights or other fare-tracking apps to monitor price changes.
Try not to wait until the final week before departure, as prices can rise quickly. At the same time, booking more than 11 months ahead does not always mean getting the lowest fare.
You do not always have to book a round-trip ticket with the same airline. Sometimes, booking two separate one-way flights can be cheaper.
For example, one airline may offer a lower outbound fare, while another has a cheaper return flight. Search each journey separately, then compare the combined price with a regular round-trip ticket before you book flights to Bali.
Just remember to check baggage fees, connection times, and cancellation policies. Separate tickets may also offer less protection if one flight is delayed or canceled.
This strategy can work especially well on domestic routes such as Jakarta–Bali because there are many full-service and budget airlines to Bali competing on the route.
Travel credit cards can also help reduce flight costs. Depending on the card, points or miles may be used for flight tickets, cashback, discounts, or exclusive airfare promotions.
Keep an eye on bank flash sales and special offers through airline websites or Online Travel Agency apps. Before using your miles, compare the redemption value with the available cash fare, as a promotional ticket can sometimes be cheaper after taxes and fees are considered.
Also check the card’s annual fee. The rewards and savings should be worth more than the cost of keeping the card.
Travel fairs can be a good place to find cheaper Denpasar flights, as airlines, travel agencies, and banks often offer limited promotional fares during these events.
Try to attend early, especially on the opening day, since the cheapest tickets may sell out quickly. If the event has an official banking partner, check whether using that bank’s credit card gives you an extra discount.
Before buying, compare the promotional fare with regular Bali flight prices on travel apps. This helps you see whether the deal is actually cheaper. If you cannot attend in person, many travel fairs also offer online promotions.
Flight prices usually rise during school holidays, Eid, Christmas and New Year, and national long weekends because demand is much higher.
If your dates are flexible, consider traveling during the low season in Bali or moving your trip a few days away from major holiday periods. Even a small change in your departure date can sometimes make a noticeable difference in airfare.
Use flexible-date tools on Google Flights or other booking platforms to compare fares across several days or weeks. There is no single guaranteed best day to book flights, so comparing different dates is usually more useful than relying on a specific weekday.
Traveling outside peak periods can also help reduce other expenses, including accommodation and activities. Just remember that the currency used in Bali is the Indonesian Rupiah (IDR), which is useful when comparing local travel costs with your overall budget.
Travel agencies and Online Travel Agencies (OTAs) sometimes offer flights and hotels together as a vacation package. Because these providers may receive special rates from airlines and hotels, the combined price can sometimes be cheaper than booking everything separately.
Always compare the total package price with the cost of purchasing the flight and hotel individually. A cheaper package is not necessarily better if the places to stay in Bali, flight schedule, or other inclusions do not match your needs.
Also check cancellation policies, travel dates, hotel reviews, and the reputation of the booking provider. Packages usually offer less flexibility, but they can be a practical option if you already need both flights and accommodation for your Bali trip.
Flight comparison tools like Google Flights, Skyscanner, Kayak, and Cheapflights make it easier to compare fares from different airlines and Online Travel Agencies (OTAs) in one place. This is especially useful when searching for direct flights to Bali without checking every airline website individually.
If your travel dates are flexible, use features such as Skyscanner’s “Whole Month” view to find cheaper travel dates. Once you find a good fare, compare it with the airline’s official website before booking, as some third-party platforms may add extra fees during checkout.
You can also turn on price alerts so you are notified when fares to Ngurah Rai Airport drop.
Booking flights for a large group does not always mean getting a cheaper price. Airlines may only have a limited number of seats available at the lowest fare, so booking everyone together can sometimes push the entire reservation into a higher price category.
If you are traveling with extended family or a large group, compare the group fare with smaller bookings for couples or families. This may help you secure more seats at lower prices.
However, group bookings can still be useful if keeping everyone on the same itinerary or sitting together is more important. Always compare the total cost, baggage rules, cancellation policies, and seating options before deciding.
Airlines and OTAs regularly send promotional fares, flash sales, and special offers through email newsletters or app notifications. Signing up can give you an early chance to spot cheaper fares, including promotions for flights to Bali.
Follow the airlines you are most likely to use and enable notifications from their official apps. Since flash sales can be short, checking these updates regularly can help you catch a good deal.
Once your flights are booked, you can start planning the places to visit in Bali and build your itinerary around your arrival and departure schedule.
Finding cheap flights to Bali mostly comes down to three things: booking at the right time, comparing fares across airlines and platforms, and staying flexible with your travel dates. Of these, avoiding the busiest travel periods, especially July, August, and December, can have the biggest impact on how much you pay.
Once your flight is booked, the next step is choosing where to stay. Explore the Ini Vie Hospitality portfolio to find villas and resorts across Bali that match your travel style.
February, March, September, and early November are often among the cheaper months to fly to Bali. These periods usually fall outside major school holidays, the July–August high season, and the Christmas–New Year rush.
If you are researching how to buy cheap flights to Bali, try comparing dates just after peak periods, such as mid-January or mid-September. Fares can be lower when airlines are trying to fill seats after busy travel seasons.
For domestic routes such as Jakarta–Bali, booking around 2–4 months ahead is a good starting point. For long-haul international flights, around 4–6 months in advance may give you more chances to find lower fares.
Booking too close to departure can be expensive, while booking more than 10–11 months ahead does not always guarantee the best price because some promotions may not yet be available.
It depends on your departure city, travel dates, and current airline promotions.
Kuala Lumpur can sometimes offer cheaper connections, especially with low-cost airlines such as AirAsia. Singapore, meanwhile, usually offers more flight choices and convenient connections through airlines such as Scoot, Jetstar Asia, and Singapore Airlines.
The easiest option is to compare both routes on Google Flights or Skyscanner before booking.
There is no guarantee that flying on a specific day will always be cheaper. While mid-week flights (Tuesday through Thursday) tend to be less expensive than weekend departures, ticket prices fluctuate constantly. The best approach is to compare prices across multiple dates rather than relying on a fixed day.
The Visa on Arrival (VoA or e-VoA) costs IDR 500,000 for eligible travelers. There is also a separate IDR 150,000 Bali tourism levy.
The visa is valid for 30 days and can be extended once for another 30 days for an additional fee. Applying for the e-VoA before departure can also make arrival easier, as eligible travelers may be able to use immigration autogates at the airport.
